John was the only Brisbane-based workplace relations and employment lawyer to be ranked as ‘highly recommended’ in the 2005 edition of ‘PLC Which Lawyer’ and to be listed in the ‘Guide to the World’s Leading Labour & Employment Lawyers’. He was one of only two Brisbane-based workplace relations practitioners to be identified as “leaders in the field” in the “Chambers Global Guide.” for 2007 and 2008. In the prestigious Doyle’s Guide for 2009, he was listed in Queensland’s top five industrial lawyers.

John has co-authored the chapters ‘Awards and Agreements’ and ‘The Australian Industrial Relations System’ in LBC’s ‘Laws of Australia’.

He has recently updated the chapter on “Human Rights in the Workplace” for the same publication. In Storne’s leading texts, “Human Resource Management” (7th edition) and “Managing Human Resources” (3rd edition) published by  John Wiley & Co, John was commissioned to author the chapter “HRM and Law”.

He is a member of the Advisory Board of Griffith University’s Department of Employment Relations & Human Resources and is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in that Faculty. John is a Queensland Law Society accredited specialist and a member of the accredited specialist committee which determines which legal practitioners are worthy of that status.

He is a Fellow and State President of the Australian Human Resources Institute and a Chartered member of its UK equivalent. He is also a member of the Industrial Relations Society of Queensland. John was invited by the UK government to be one of the Australian “Friends of Scotland” network and is also a Director of a malt whisky appreciation group – The Whisky Workshop
